    Job Description
    International Horseradish Festival Internship

    The International Horseradish Festival Committee in coordination with the Collinsville Chamber of Commerce seeks a reliable, motivated, and organized student intern who takes directions well. An exemplary candidate will be a strong writer, an effective communicator, and present professionally. Positive attitude and attention to detail are a must.
    This unpaid internship and may count as work study or credit toward your degree (check with your academic advisor). An average 2-4 hours per week February through April, 20-30 hours per week in May, and up to 40 hours the first week of June leading up to the Festival and during the Festival. Hours are flexible, but should total to approximately 200 hours.  
    Interns are encouraged to attend and participate in all Chambers of Commerce events and functions during the internship.  This allows ample time for networking with business leaders and opportunities to become familiar with a wide variety of different businesses types. 

    Skills & Qualifications
    Candidate must be familiar with Microsoft Office and web editors. A firm understanding of AP writing style is required. Have an understanding of social media, press releases, office management, and event planning.   

    Intern will be evaluated at the end of internship term based on successful fulfillment of duties performed.

    Intern will work directly with the Communications Coordinator, in cooperation with International Horseradish Festival Committee, to develop content for the Horseradish Festival Website, social media, advertisements and media releases.  Attendance at the monthly Horseradish Festival Committee meetings is required. (Held once a month in the evening)
    Website and Social Media
    • Develop content
    • Upload photographs and video
    • Promote and track traffic
    • Facebook campaigns
    • Work with the Advertising Chairman to develop ad content
    • Attend meeting with the ad representatives
    Media Relations
    • Work with the Marketing Chairman to develop content
    • Schedule timely releases of information related to contest and events
    • Produce a general media kit for this year’s Festival
    • Call on local news media to secure promotion opportunities
    Festival Duties
    • Be available to coordinate onsite press coverage
    • Coordinate with the Committee to assist with the events, do announcements, or help as needed the first weekend in June.
