The Business/Administrative Associate provides quality service and business development assistance to the clients of the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville main campus and East St. Louis locations. Clients of the SBDC are prospective and current for-profit small business owners from a nine county region of the metro-East Illinois area. The SBDC assists clients with the following: business plan development, market research/planning, financing options, start-up process, business assessment, loan packaging awareness, financial analysis/projections, opportunities to work with teams of business students, access to library resources, and other small business needs.

Duties of this position consist of the following:
-Scheduling and meeting with clients for one-on-one counseling sessions,
-Conducting workshops, and coordinating on-site and off-site seminars and programs,
-Preparing and gathering resources for all of the above,
-Knowing the services of other organizations that clients may utilize, etc.

Clients are referred to the SBDC from sources including the following: Chambers of Commerce, local governments, banks, professional service providers, word of mouth, public events, business directories, Small Business Association, etc.

The Business/Administrative Associate may occasionally be required to work some evening/weekend hours.  This position will be required to travel between both the Edwardsville and East St. Louis locations, along with travel within the nine (9) county area.  Transportation will need to be provided by the incumbent.  Further duties and responsibilities may be assigned in support of the center’s mission and goals.

This position is a current civil service vacancy at both the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville main campus and East St. Louis Center. It will close to applicants at close of business, 4:30 pm CST, on the posting end date.

1.      Bachelor's degree in business administration, management, or a field related to the position required. 
2.      Two years of professional level accounting, managerial and/or business experience, one year of which was at an administrative level.
3.      Additional education, training and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position may be required.

-Proficiency in Microsoft products including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.
-Excellent communication skills, including public speaking, required.  
-Ability to travel to, and conduct business in, a nine county area.
-Ability to operate and maintain the Small Business Development Center client information database.  
-Knowledge of Illinois Entrepreneurship Network resources and/or a small business background or economic development experience is a plus.  
-2 years of small business counseling/consulting or business experience preferred.
