    Job Description
    The City of Collinsville is accepting applications for the position of Fleet Mechanic. This is a full-time, union position that reports to the Fleet Manager.

    The fleet mechanic is responsible to perform daily preventative maintenance and repair of the city’s existing fleet of various types of vehicles and equipment such that the vehicles and equipment are safe, reliable and properly maintained. Samples of types of equipment to be maintained and repaired include: standard passenger vehicles and trucks, snow operations equipment, grass-cutting equipment, large equipment to include fire apparatus, backhoes, front loaders, mini-excavators, etc.

    Duties include but are not limited to: inspecting and performing preventive maintenance and services on a variety of gas, diesel, hybrid, hydraulic and electrical equipment and vehicles; replacing, repairing and/or rebuilding defective or worn parts and systems to restore vehicles and equipment to good working condition; and repairing and maintaining all city equipment from string trimmers to heavy equipment, welds and fabricates parts which include hydraulic parts. This position also diagnoses and repairs electrical components such as lights (LED, strobe, etc.) and sirens on police vehicles.

    QUALIFICATIONS
    The successful applicant must have a high school diploma or equivalent, valid driver’s license and two to five years of experience as a lead mechanic or mechanic. The successful candidate must possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or be able to obtain within six months of employment. An Associate Degree is preferred. An associate degree in Automotive Technology is desirable. Candidates with equivalent training and work experience are encouraged to apply.

    SALARY and BENEFITS
    The wage is $26.79 per hour. The City of Collinsville offers a comprehensive benefits package, which includes health, dental, vision and prescription 100% funded by the City for single coverage. Pension is with the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund.

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION
    Candidate must be a resident of Madison or St. Clair County, living within a 10-mile radius of Collinsville City Hall, 125 South Center Street, Collinsville, IL 62234 within 12-months of hire date.
