    February 01, 2018
I am pleased to announce the 2018 Southwestern Illinois Trade Mission to Mexico, to be held this year.  Dates have not been finalized yet but the mission is tentatively scheduled for either late June or late July.  I invite you to consider participation in this very important event for our region. I also encourage you to invite businesses and members from your network that may be interested in learning more about this opportunity. In past missions, we have had economic development groups representing their regions and the feedback was very positive.

This mission will be led by the Southwestern Illinois Trade and Investment Council, with the full support of the International Trade Center at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (ITC), the Office of Trade and Investment (OTI) of the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) and the U.S. Department of Commerce.

Trade mission participants will enjoy private one-on-one meetings with prospective customers and partners, carefully selected with your input.

This customized program is open to businesses from southern Illinois with an interest in exploring export opportunities for their products and services (all industries and sectors welcome), finding or expanding distribution channels as well as getting first-hand market information and experiencing the business environment in Mexico, the second-largest goods export market for the U.S. and Illinois and the second largest economy in Latin America.

Trade missions are known for being less expensive than exhibiting at a trade show. You may meet fewer prospects; however, during a trade mission, prospects have been carefully targeted and pre-screened, based on their interest in your specific products/services. Consequently, the quality of the meetings you have during a trade mission tend to be far more productive in the long term.  Save time/cost and maximize your results!

Services Offered to Participating Companies / Organizations:
    Matchmaking
    • 2-4 days of customized, pre-arranged one-on-one business appointments with prospective buyers, agents, distributors and representatives.
    • On-site interpreters.
    • Local transportation.
    Export Counseling
    • Pre-trip briefing sessions provided by the International Trade Center at SIUE and OTI networks.
    • In-country briefings by host country representatives.
    • Networking events with local business communities, export/import associations.
    Travel and Logistical Assistance
    • Preferential hotel rates.
    • Logistical and on-the-ground support.
    • Continuous follow-up assistance to ensure marketing objectives are met.

We are currently working with outstanding partners to finalize details regarding participation fees and trying to minimize costs, just to make it affordable for everyone.  Keep in mind that this mission could qualify for the Illinois State Trade Export Promotion (ISTEP) financial funding offered to small and medium-sized exporters. Businesses can be awarded up to $7,500 in travel cost reimbursements. For complete details regarding eligibility and how to apply, visit our site at: http://www.siue.edu/business/itc/istep.shtml

Future e-mails with regular updates of this mission will be sent to interested parties only. If you are interested in learning more about this trade mission, let us know and provide us full contact details so you can continue receiving updates and register on time. Deadline for the recruitment of companies will be by late February or when all spots are filled, whichever happens first.

I hope you consider learning more about this unique opportunity available only to a limited number of companies that will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
Thank you for your time and we look forward to your participation.
    Happy exporting!
