(Collinsville): Head to Uptown Collinsville for a free, fun, family-friendly outdoor event. On June 10, the Collinsville Route 66 History Celebration will take place at Collins Park – D.D. Collins House to highlight the Collinsville’s rich history and historical attractions. The historic Daniel Dove Collins house will be open for tours and storytelling. Visitors will also enjoy photo ops with classic cars from by local car club Burn Out Alley, balloons and face painting by well-known Amazing Kids Entertainment, live caricature drawings by—St. Louis favorite—Caricatures by Haram, light refreshments from JCI Collinsville, festival games, and more…!
Visitors are also encouraged to take a self-guided walking tour to explore Uptown Collinsville’s historic architecture; shop with our proud local businesses for rare finds and household antiques, vintage records, a bouquet of flowers, classic video games, and more; and dine-in for lunch or dinner at one of our Main Street restaurants!
This event is planned in association with the statewide Blue Carpet Corridor Route 66 tour day. The Blue Carpet is an organization that promotes awareness, marketing, tourism, and preservation of the rich mining history, mobster lore, and “Mother Road charm” of Illinois Route 66 communities which are known for their unique attractions, roadside hospitality, family-fun, historic buildings, and monuments of proud heritage.
Collinsville is 1 of 19 participating communities in this section of historic Illinois Route 66 stretching north from Chatham and south to Collinsville. Each year tourists from across the country and internationally make this nostalgic journey to explore the history of historic Route 66 visiting Blue Carpet Corridor communities for tourism, entertainment, dining, lodging and shopping.
Collinsville extends warm welcome to our visitors, as well as local residents, encouraging all to explore the rich history of our city! 2017 Collinsville Route 66 History Celebration is made possible by the generous support our sponsors and vendors: Friends of D.D.
