Racetrack Veterinarian

The Racetrack Veterinarian will be a licensed veterinarian specializing in the health, safety, and performance of racehorses, working closely with trainers, owners, stewards, and regulatory officials to ensure horses meet health and safety standards for competition.
Responsibilities:
Pre‑race inspections: Examine all horses scheduled to race to assess soundness and fitness, checking for lameness, swelling, heat in joints, and other signs of distress
Post‑race checks: Inspect horses after races for injuries, lameness, or exercise‑induced pulmonary hemorrhage, and report findings to stewards
Emergency care: Administer immediate treatment for accidents or injuries; have authority to place horses on the “Vets List” and, in severe cases, humanely euthanize if beyond repair
Regulatory compliance: Work with the state racing commission and stewards to enforce health and medication rules; may conduct drug testing and maintain sick/injured lists
Collaboration: Communicate with trainers, owners, and other veterinarians to ensure optimal horse welfare
All other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
DVM degree and a state license to practice veterinary medicine
Proven experience as Racetrack Veterinarian
In-depth knowledge of equine diseases and health conditions
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with horse owners
Physically fit and able to handle large animals
A deep compassion for animals and a commitment to their health and wellbeing
Must be able to obtain IRB license
Base Pay Range:
